Description:

She was a Russian woman who fought in World War I and formed the Women's Battalion of Death. She was the first woman to lead a Russian military unit in the history of the nation. She joined the army after petitioning the Czar in 1914 and was granted permission to join. Initially suffering harassment and ostracization due to being one of the few women in the army, over the course of the war Maria Bochkareva would overcome both her doubters and battlefield injuries to become one of the most decorated soldiers and commanders in the Russia army
