Silk in Rome under Marcus Aurelius (1 janv. 161 – 1 janv. 180)

Description:

Up through the reign of Emperor Marcus Aurelius, silk was still the most valued commodity in Rome and no amount of conservative criticism was able to displace it. Conservative Romans were the most ardent silk critics, hence the term "conservative criticism," even more against it than Augustus was. They claimed that silk violated the morality of female dress code, and thought it too effeminate to be worn by men.
