By mid-January, the column left Kati for Dedougou, and started its operation on February 13, 1916. The followingmonths were characterized by the systematic destruction of enemy strongholds and villages. It is estimated that up to 112 villages were razed to ground.In the numerous bombardments and assaults, the French authorities did notdiscriminate between civilians and combatants, as demonstrated by thenumerous orders given by Molard and his officers to shoot and kill fleeingcivilians.
