Description:
Ivan IV made several reforms to the Russian autocracy. He made himself ruler of all commercial dealings and property in addition to agricultural land. Using his secret police, the oprichnina, he purged the nobility of hereditary nobles. He also called the first zemsky sobor, or representative council, and reformed provincial governments.
