PREQB were made aware of an accidental spill at PPI of ink and oil residues that flowed into the Vivi River.
PREQB saw wastewater being discharged directly from PPI, onto the ground, an into the Vivi River.
PREQB observed indaequte disposal and storage of inks and chemicals.
PREQB responded to a report of brown liquid (Which was later found to be benzene toluene and PCE) flowing into the Vivi River. Eleven people were evacuated and dead fish were seen in the river.
PREQB conducted a dye test at PPI. Dyes disposed of in the facility reached the Vivi River.
PREQB performed a full RCRA generator inspection at PPI. It was found out of compliance with Regualtions For thye Control of Hazardous Solid Waste , as they had no contingency plan, storing hazardous waste for more than 90 days, and open hazardous waste containers.
The trucking company Servicios Sanitarios Perez was found to have been hired by PPI to dump their waste into the Rio Grande de Arecibo. ASTDR does not have any data of the water contamination levels.
During the Superfund Preliminary Assesment, PREQB saw metal debris on the floor, ink that was allowed to drip directly onto the floor, corroded 55-gallon drums without secondary containment, and ink stained soil around the facility.
the PREQB Superfund did a screening investigation of PPI to assess conditions at the site. PCE and TCE were found in the water, while Arsenic, Cadmiium, mercury, lead, and many others were found in the soil.
