Elie is a strong and brave boy in his Jewish village
Spends day and night studying and praying to god
Refuses to believe Moishe the Beadle when he tries to warn him because he thinks god will protect him
Gets moved to a death camp and becomes incredibly scared; starts praying to god even more
He becomes incredibly sad because he gets separated from his mom and sister
gets moved to a labor camp and the intense labor makes him very frail
Gets his first thoughts about wanting to kill himself since he doesn't want to endure the suffering
Food rations are cut even lower and he becomes incredibly weak
His mental health starts deteriating
Loses hope in god and stops praying
Starts accusing and rebelling against god
refuses to fast becasue he doesnt beleive in god anymore
breaks his leg and gets weaker
completes a very hard journey on a broken leg to stay with his father; made him very frail
His father dies and he starts losing hope
food rations are completely cut out; he is living off snow and scraps. Starts gaining the will to live again since there is talk about the camp being shut down
Finnaly free from the camps; starts getting stronger again
