Trojan War. Not much is known about the war except for the fact that it happened. Was fought against Early Greeks and the Anatolian city-state of Troy. The Greeks won after fighting ten years.
The first Olympics took place in Athens where city-states came together to compete in athletic competitions. In the modern Olympics, Athens has been the host of the modern Olympics in 1896 and 2004.
Invention of the Greek alphabet. The English alphabet derived from the Greek alphabet. It is still used in Greece. We used it in the Unied States when we run out of 21 names for hurricanes. The only year that we used Greek names was in 2005.
Greek colonies established in southern Italy and Sicily. The Greek Empire began to expand.
Pythagoras, famous for coming up with the Pythagorean Theorem is born in Samos in 569 B.C..
Solon gets rid of Draconian law, comes up the foundation for democracy. Introduced money and a system of weights and measurements.
Democracy begins in Athens. The United States of America followed this democracy.
Kleisthenes begins law reform, and writes a Democratic consitutuon, similar to the United States of America.
Battle of Marathon during the Persian Wars (497-479). The Greek beat the Persians. Athens is 26.2 miles away from Marathon (where we got the concept of marathon from when they ran towards Athens to tell people about the war.
Socrates is put on trial and executed, because he worshiped different gods, and tried to get younger people to follow his new gods.
The Romans invade Greece.
