Shirley Jackson was Born
in San Francisco, CaliforniaHer family moved east
and she attended the
University of RochesterAfter about a year at the
University of Rochester she
left and spent a year at home
to practice writing and
producing a minimum
of a thousand words
per day.She then got into University
of Syracuse where she
published her first story
"Janice". She was then
appointed fiction editor
of the campus humor
magazine.Her first novel was
published "The road
though the wall." This
same year the New Yorker
published her short story
"The Lottery"She got a teaching job
at Bennington College
and she and her husband
moved to an old house near
the schools where she
continued writing while
raising her children.The publication of
"Hangsaman" and
"The Summer People"
begun her succession
of Gothic Novels'the Lottery" had its first
adaptations on TV. She
continued to write stories.She wrote her best
known novel "The
Haunting of the Hill
House". It has been
adapted for feature filmsShe received the
Edgar Allen Poe
Award for
"Lousia, Please"Her Novel "The Haunting"
was released as a movie
and had amazing reviews.She was awarded Arents
Pioneer Medal for
Outstanding Achievement
from Syracuse University.She had a heart failure
while taking her usual
afternoon nap and died.
