Sojourner Truth’s slave name was Isabella Baumfree, she was born in New York around the year 1797. Her real date of birth is unknown, due to her being a salve. The majority of slaves records of birth were not kept.
Sojourner Truth runs away from her owner and takes her daughter with her. Sojourner’s son was sold to another owner. Which Sojourner never gave up searching. She was able to get her son back and she sued her former owner for selling her son illegally.
She changed her name to “Sojourner truth” because her voices told her to call herself “Sojourner truth”. It was around this time period that she begins traveling across the States. She met various abolitionists such as Frederick Douglass.
Sojourner Truth attended the women’s right convention,Which took place in Akron, Ohio. At the convention, Sojourner Truth gave the most powerful speech which later on ended being named “ain't I a woman”, one of her most famous speech.
Truth has made a huge impact on various lives. She opened doors for many others who were in her shoes and she felt that it was upon her to change things for the better. At the age of 86 Sojourner Truth passed away in Michigan.
