October 8th, 2001: FBI began a criminal investigation on the anthrax cases in Florida, they start dealing with anthrax hoaxesNovember 15th, 2001: FBI found a letter addressed to Senator Patrick Leahy that tested positive for anthraxSometime in between: FBI received help from 29 government, university, and commercial laboratories which helped them develop the chemical, physical, genetic, and forensic profiles of the anthrax spore, letters, and envelopes used in the attacksEarly 2002: FBI and investigators interviewed Hatfill and found out he had unrestricted access to the Ames strain of anthraxJune 2002: FBI announced that all the spores had been created within two years of the attackAugust 2002: They found a mailbox in NJ that was contaminated with anthrax
