Jacob, his oldest, is 11.Dorothea Grimm dies at age 52. Jacob, with Wilhelm following soon after, takes a position as a librarian at Kassel to support his younger siblings.The Grimm brothers publish volume one of Kinder- und Hausmärchen (Children' and Household Tales -- commonly known as Grimms' Fairy Tales), a book containing 86 numbered folktales.Volume two of Kinder- und Hausmärchen appears in print, adding 70 stories to the previous collection. There will be six additional editions added during the Grimms' lifetime. Its final version will contain 200 numbered stories plus 10 "Children's Legends."
