Amedeo Avogadro Published a paper that stated "equal volumes of all gases at the same temperature and pressure contain equal numbers of molecules." This is what is currently known as Avogadro's law. Fun fact: Avogadro's full name was Lorenzo Romano Amedeo Carlo Avogadro di Quaregna e di Cerreto
Henri Becquerel Accidentally discovered radiation by placing a uranium sample on top of a plate. Marie and Pierre Curie worked under him as his students Fun Fact: Craters on the Moon and Mars are named for him.
Niels Bohr He created an electron shell model that showed that the nucleus of an atom is small and positively charged and how electrons could orbit around the nucleus. Fun Fact: When he was awarded the Order of the Elephant by the Danish government, he designed his own coat of arms which featured a taijitu (symbol of yin and yang).
Robert Boyle He discovered the inversely proportional relationship between the absolute pressure and volume of a gas, if the temperature is kept constant within a closed system. Fun fact: He predicted several modern inventions.
Henry Cavendish Was the first to recognize hydrogen gas as a distinct substance. He also described the composition of water and made the first accurate measurement of the density of the Earth. Fun Facts: he was born in a Britsh noble family.
Marie Curie Discovered radium. She is very popular, because her discoveries effect us in everyday life. Fun Fact: She was the first woman to win a Nobel prize.
Pierre Curie One of the founders of Physics. Marie Curies husband. "He discovered that the magnetic coefficients of attraction of paramagnetic bodies vary in inverse proportion to the absolute temperature", known as Curies law. Received the Noble price. Fun fact: Pierre was killed when he was hit by a vehicle on the streets of Paris.
John Dalton 'Found that volume of all gases he studied increased proportionally with rise in temperature when pressure was held constant." This is now known as Charles's Law. Fun Fact: He was a Quaker who couldnt attend a univerity.
Humphry Davy Inventor of the Davy lamp, which was a product of working closely with oxides then later sodium potassium and boron. Fun fact: He was an apprentince to a surgeon.
Otto Hahn Invented Nuclear fission Fun Fact: "He worked under Sir William Ramsay who had discovered inert gases."
Charles Martin Hall Invented a way to produce aluminum that would be extremely inexpensive. Fun fact: He lived to the age of 51
Frederic Joliet-Curie Discovered artificial radioactivity by throwing alpha particles at elements and creating new ones. Fun fact: He was Marie Curie's assistant brfore he married her daughter.
Irene Joliet-Curie Worked with her husband to create the first artificially created radioactive isotope. Fun Fact: she was born and died in Paris, France.
Antoine Lavoisier Discovered oxygen an the role that it plays in combustion discrediting the hypothesis of Phlogiston. Fun Fact: His family knew people in parlament snd he was very wealthy.
Dimitri Mendeleev Discovered periodic law when creating a textbook of his own for his students in inorganic chemistry. Fun Fact: His father became blind and lost his job as a teacher of fine arts.
Lise Meitner Discovered anew element called "protactinium." Fun Fact: she worked closely with Otto Hahn
Henry Moseley He accidentally created the first atomic battery and named is raduim battery. Fun fact: he worked under Ernest Rutherford in his laboratory.
Joseph Priestley Was the first to recognize oxygen. he noticed the colorless odorless gas that was produced when burning a candle. Fun Fact: He had five brothers and sister and he was the oldest.
Wilhelm Roentgen Discovered x-ray radiation while studying cathode radiation. Fun Fact: He was an only child
Ernest Rutherford Most notably known fir his work with the gold-foil experiment which proved that elements had a small dense center. The nucleus. Fun fact: Her was born in New Zeland
Carl Wilhelm Scheele He came up with the idea of " fire air" which contained what he called phlogiston. Fun fact: He stopped going to school at age 14
Glenn Seaborg He discovered transuranium elements which are elements that have atomic number larger than 92. Fun fact: he was Jobless when he graduated from college.
Robert Bunsen he invented the Bunsen burned which added air to the gas allowing the flame to be more clear than it natural was and giving more reliable colors to the flame tests. Fun fact: He got his Ph. D in chemistry at the age of 19
