Birth of Harriet Tubman (Araminta Ross)
Harriet was a slave herself in Maryland for Philadelphia who then escaped becoming an American abolitionist. She escaped from slavery, along with her brother.
Conductor on the Underground Railroad. She helped her family and hundreds of other families who were slaves escape to freedom through an Underground Railroad. Over a decade, she took 19 trips back to the south leading and guiding family and friends away from slavery.
