Electromagnetic Induction [1831] A man named Michael Faraday discovered a way to generate electricmotive force from a conductor and a magnet. This would go on to become the very basis of how almost all of our electrical power is generated today.
Penicillin [1928] Alexander Fleming was the first to be able to isolate the effects of penicillium mould. This effect of supressing bacterial growth will soon come to use as the first group of antibiotics that will be effective against the normal baterial infections.
ICE: Internal Combustion Engine [1794] The ICE was the first engine to run on liquid fuel. Today, ICEs drive some of the largest electric generators that power electric grids.
The World Wide Web [1991] Starting in 1980, Tim Berners-Lee created the WWW project at CERN. His invention of the HyperText Treansfer Protocol (HTTP) and the HyperText Markup Language (HTML) are the foundations of today's webpages.
Steam Engine [1781] James Watt patented a steam engine that produced rotary motion with the power of 7500W. It was the first steam engine to make use of steam at a pressure just above atmospheric to drive the the piston.
Nitrogen Fixation [1863] As one of the most important biochemical processes on the Earth, Hermann Helliriegel is credited to the discovery of the tubercles on the roots as the agency through which nitrogen fixation takes place.
Refrigerator [1856] The first practical vapor compression refrigeration system was built by James Harrison. His original patented version was for compressing ether, alcohol, or ammonia.
Pressure Cooker [1679] A French physicist named Denis Papin accidentally created the first pressure cooker he named "steam digester" in an attempt to cook food more quickly. Inmodern kitchens, pressure cookers become essential to certain dishes thatwould otherwise take a long time.
Windows XP [2001] Perhaps the most familar version of the Microsoft Windows OS in this generation is the Windows XP, codenamed "Whistler". This version was a major advance from the MS-DOS based versions of Windows, giving a significant upgrade in security, stability, and efficiency. It also had a greatly improved GUI.
Oculus RIft [2012] The Oculus RIft is a virtual reality headset that was widly popular from its kickstarter page and even after its launch. It was, to many, a big step into the world of virtual reality and its related hardware.
