Nobel was born October 21, 1833 in Stockholm, Sweden
In 1846 nitroglycerin was invented, nitroglycerin is very combustible and powerful explosive
After traveling the world Nobel came back to Sweden in 1863 to d evelop a process of safely manufacturing nitroglycerin
In 1863 nobel invented a reliable detonator for nitroglycerin made from mercury fulminate
In 1864 when Nobel’s factory for producing nitroglycerin blew, killing his younger brother in the process he became determined to find a way to make nitroglycerin safer
Nobel found kieselguhr a porous clay that could absorb nitroglycerin and make it safer without massively reducing its power, he patented it in 1867 as dynamite
After Nobel invented dynamite he kept experimenting he found that mixing nitroglycerin and collodion would make a gelatinous mass that had high water resistance and was more powerful than dynamite, he patented it in 1875
Nobel died on December 10, 1896 in San Remo, Italy
Nobel wrote in his will that he wanted his money to be used to create the Nobel prize foundation, after lots of debate the first prizes were awarded in 1901
