1 janv. 1720 - Introduction
Description:
My theme for the final project will be focusing on pieces throughout history that are dedicated to someone else. The theme itself is fairly flexible, as I will be adding pieces that are dedicated to a romantic interest, to a potential employer, or even just platonically. Due to the theme’s flexibility, I should be able to find at least one example from each musical era. The theme should also allow for a diverse group of composers that can be used too. One of the more notable pieces I currently have in mind is Ludwig van Beethoven’s Für Elise, which is widely believed to be dedicated to a woman (All Classical Radio). Other less known pieces will also be used, such as Maurice Ravel’s Le Tombeau de Couperin, which is dedicated to friends who had died in World War I. I will also be including Richard Wagner’s Siegfried Idyll, which was a birthday gift to his wife, Colima Wagner. Wagner is more famously known for Ride of The Valkyries. I decided on this theme because I believe that the story behind the piece is just as important as the music itself. I left the theme more broad because I did not want to limit myself to pieces with just romantic dedications.
