6 juin 1944 - D-Day

Description:

Dwight D. Eisenhower or Ike, as people called him, headed the Allied invasion of North Africa through Morocco, saw the surrender of the German Afrikan Korps in Tunisia in May of 1943. Afterward Eisenhower was chosen to be Supreme Commander of Allied Forces in Europe and oversaw the Allied invasion of France, (Normandy). A mountain of war supplies and men had been built up in England in preparation for D-Day, the largest Amphibious invasionary force in history. During the invasion, American casualties were heavy in places along the 60 miles of France's coast, but overall the operation was a success in that Paris was liberated 2 months later August 1944 and by March of 1945 the Allies had reached the Rhine River.
