Description:

A battle between Greeks and the Persian forces of Darius I that took place on the plain of Marathon (hence its name). Athenian forces overpowered the invading Persians, losing only 192 men to the Persians' 6400. This "proved the superiority of the Greek long spear, sword, and armour over the Persians’ weapons". This battle would later be represented as a great triumph for the Greeks.
