15 déc. 1950 - The Lavender Scare (1950)
Description:
After a secretive investigation of federal employee's sexual orientation by the federal government at the start of the Cold War, the work "Employment of Homosexuals and Other Sex Perverts in Government" is distributed to members of Congress. The report claims homosexuals are a security risk in government jobs as homosexuality is a mental illness and homosexuals lack common emotional stability. After the report, thousands of queer people were let go from government jobs and hundreds were discharged from the military.
This event became known as the Lavender Scare and lasted until the late 1960s.
