Description:
On the 1st of February in 1908 D. Carlos was assassinated by two republican activists in Lisbon.João Franco's contradictory and violent policies contributed to the regicide and the republicans were eager to revolt.
The royal family was returning to Lisbon from Alentejo, where they had spent part of the hunting season during the winter and on their way to the royal palace shots were fired from amongst the crowd.
