15 mai 1765 - Quartering Act May 15, 1765

Description:

The Quartering Act was passed by the British Parliament on May 15, 1765, because of the increased presence of British troops in America and their need for housing. The act required the colonists to house British soldiers in barracks provided by the colonists, and if those filled up, they would be housed in public places such as inns, alehouses, and livery stables. If all of those were filled as well, the colonists were forced to house the British soldiers in their own homes. There was particular outrage for this in New York, where the largest number of barracks were.
