4 janv. 522 av. J.-C. - Darius

Description:

Darius I was a ruler of Persia that had many contributions. He created a new position, satrap, which was a ruler of a province who was responsible to the Emperor, not to local leaders. The satrap system was an efficient administrative bureaucracy. Through regular tax payments, he founded Persepolis, the capital city which is located in present day Iran. He also built the royal road which was a 1,500-mile route made to encourage trade. Caravanserai were also instituted so that merchants in camel caravans had comfort while trading. He also made a common currency which made trade more simple.
