1 janv. 1830 - 1830: Removal Act
Description:
President can grant land west of the Mississippi River to Natives who agreed to give up their homelands
Natives offered financial and material assistance to travel to new property entitled to them with Gov's protection "forever"
Jackson and his followers were free to persuade, bribe, and threaten tribes into signing removal treaties and leaving the Southeast (mostly Choctaws and Cherokees)
Natives not "forced" west, but if they chose to stay they would have to abide by state laws, which destroyed their tribal and personal rights and made them subject to endless harassment and invasion by white settlers coveting their land. If they left, however, the federal government would give them financial support and promise them lands beyond the Mississippi.
