21 juill. 903 - Battle of Lower Danube of 903
Description:
Deeply embarrassed by the defeat of Odessus, Romanos II raised more men and sent Niketas Skleros to meet with the Magyars ruling princes Árpád and Kurszán to form an alliance.
Magyars once lived under the reign of the Khazars, however, as the Khazars had declined for decades, the Magyar revolted against Khazar rule in the mid 9th century with Pechengs and Rus, and then inhabited at the steppes between the Dnieper and the Danube.
The Magyars accepted Romans terms, as a result, a Magyars force, led by Árpád's son, Liüntika, was ferried across the Danube by the Romans and attacked Simeon's Bulgarians from the rear. Simeon suspended his campaign against Romans to turn against the Hungarians, however being defeated by the Magyars at Lower Danube.
