Description:

-Gen. Augusto Pinochet recruited by CIA to lead military coup

-bloodiest coup in Latin American history

-US weapons + funding used

-government buildings, police stations, radio stations etc. seized by military

-presidential palace under attack: claim that Allende committed suicide (however some say he was murdered)

-after coup: 1000s of Allende supporters taken to Santiago football stadium (many tortured/killed)
