There are photos. Graphic injuries. Black eyes, cuts, bumps, scrapes, and bruises. A lobbed off piece of finger flesh. Videos, witnesses, audio tapes of an abuser revealing themselves in chillingly casual fashion. And yet.. silence. The self admitted abuser here is still out in public, still being propped up by major fashion brands L'Oréal and Fendi. Still a UN human rights activist (don't get me started on this particular brand of hypocrisy), still invited to pre-Oscar parties and award ceremonies. Why? Because the media doesn't care about her victim, Johnny Depp.

In a world where people are now being "cancelled" left and right for misspeaking or acting in a way that mobs, mostly Twitter folk, consider out of line, the idea that someone could possibly resurrect themselves from the depths of cancellation is uncharted territory. Let's recap. In 2016 Amber Heard uttered the words, "I was abused by Johnny Depp". In an instant his life would never be the same. The pitchforks were out. Tar was being boiled and feathers were readied. Johnny Depp was cancelled, the ultimate death blow in the world of celebrity. He was to be shunned and exiled, never to return.

His casting as Gellert Grindelwald in the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them' franchise created such an uproar that JK Rowling and the director, David Yates, were forced to defend the decision to have him join their films. A remarkable second uproar occurred here, instead of thinking that these people might know more than the average person on the street, they too were dragged and verbally reprimanded. How dare they defend an abuser!It was an absolute, there were no questions to be asked, one does not question a woman who declares that she has been assaulted! A cardinal sin in the book of many.

There is a group of Depp truthers out there who have been very carefully following the developments in this case since that late May, 2016 day. In their minds there are more than a few things that stand out, and make abundantly clear, that Heard is not only lying about her accounts of abuse but has turned the tables on Depp, and that he is a victim of her assaults. They have diligently examined every shred of evidence they can get their hands on and, to be honest, it's been quite a lot. Especially Since Depp launched his defamation lawsuit against Heard last March.

On March 1, 2019 Johnny Depp unleashed a $50 million defamation lawsuit on Amber Heard over an op-ed she wrote in the Washington Post in December 2018. It was after this publication that Depp lost his role as Captain Jack Sparrow and, although the piece never mentions Depp by name, there are quite a lot of points Amber makes that point to him and almost the entire world took it as a tale of her experience(s) with him. In his initial court filing Depp tells harrowing accounts of abuse he allegedly suffered at the hands of his ex-wife. This includes the notorious incident where he lost part of his finger and his version of this event is a stark contrast, and dare I say entirely more in the realm of sanity.? Than the one Amber produced. He says she launched a vodka bottle at him in a fit of rage after he did the unthinkable and asked her to sign a post nuptial agreement.
She apparently took great offense to this discussion and began raging at him, lobbing several bottles of spirits in his direction before one crashed into a marble counter top where his hand lay, shattering and severing the digit in the process. He went on to mention several other instances of abuse he says she inflicted on him that directly countered her claims.

Upon reading these revelations the Depp faithful immediately set to exposing his side of the story, they were instantly met with jeers and guffaws from the online community. Comments ranged from instantly accusing him of lying to, "why did he wait 3 years to say this?", all the while ignoring their own hypocrisy because they would never question a woman as to why she waited to come forward, but I digress. It wouldn't be the biggest hypocritical moment in the story, the best was yet to come.

As more evidence was released on his behalf he seemed to gain more support, there were a few viral tweets here and there and people were calling for the cancellation of Amber Heard after his version of losing his finger tip went viral along with accusations of her defecating in their bed for shits and giggles (no pun intended.. ok maybe a little). It hadn't really stuck though, and the only outlet that was posting any of this ever evolving evidence and court documents was The Blast. It was a bit startling that, while some more major publications had announced the initial filing of the lawsuit, they hadn't bothered to write any follow up articles about what was coming out of it.

In the weeks and months that followed came even more witness statements in defense of Depp, all along the same lines. Amber would lunge at him, hurl some object, spit, yell, harass and they would step in to stop her attack.Then there were the employees of the Eastern Columbia building. They were deposed back in 2016 and all of them echoed similar statements - they never really saw Mr. Depp in the building nor had they really interacted with him, but they constantly saw Amber Heard and see her they did on May 22, 2016, the day after she accuses Johnny of assaulting her in their residence and hurling an iPhone at her face like a baseball pitcher. They had seen nothing. No marks on her face. Nor had they seen anything in the days after, until she went to court to make her claims. Then she suddenly had something on her face. They said as much when asked for comments by various tabloids. That didn't sit right with Amber who asked them to retract their stories, she even had a "friend" at People magazine they could speak to who would print those retractions. Luckily these people have morals and refused to lie for her. This wasn't the first time she had asked people to lie or be deceitful on her behalf. Multiple emails have emerged of her desire to falsify documents in order to get her dogs into Australia. I think we all know how that turned out. See: apology video from hell.

No outlet published the above employee statements, nor the ones of his witnesses that have thus far been released. We are far from having seen all 40 plus of them. Some of the ones that have been released are down right damning to Heard. Yet not a peep in the mainstream. The Blast has continued to be the main outlet for Depp's court case news, including the money grabbing incident of a crew member for one of his sets accusing Depp of having assaulted him as well. That was disproven by the script supervisor with time and date stamped photos of the incident and, once again, other witness testimony that supports Depp's innocence. Not to mention a selfie of the two men taken that evening with glasses of wine while hugging it out, the guy certainly does not look distressed that's for sure. There were also rumblings that this man's legal team was colluding with Amber Heard's. Make of that what you will.

Now major bombs have been deployed. Two audio tapes, one an hour and one 30 minutes in length, of Amber Heard admitting to abusing Johnny Depp, gaslighting him and reinterpreting his version of events. Telling him straight up that no one will ever believe he, a man, was abused by poor lil her. She even makes sure to mention her tiny stature in comparison to his which is completely absurd. See any photo of them together for proof she was nearly his size. This has been the most egregious development thus far in this never ending battle. We now have Amber, in her own words, on what is said to be a consensually recorded audio on her phone admitting to hitting him, throwing objects at him, and getting angry at him for leaving the immediate area every time she starts a fight - which she also admits to.

Again this revelation fails to make a blip on the radar of mainstream outlets. It is catapulted into the eyes of the general public by the tireless Depp fans on Twitter via the Daily Mail. They also happen to be the largest publication to speak about his evidence to date. Smaller blogs have posted op-eds and the like and there have been a few blurbs through Newsweek and Yahoo. But the NYT, Wall Street Journal, CNN, Fox, MSN, hell even TMZ hasn't said a peep about this. Meanwhile the hashtag #JusticeforJohnnyDepp was a worldwide trend through the Feb 1 weekend with people expressing their absolute outrage at Amber Heard for masquerading as a victim. She spent the last four years portraying herself as angelic. She said she only ever hit him once in self defense, all the while making him out to be an uncontrollable monster. That now has proven to be the furthest thing from the truth.

You would think journalists the world over would be scrambling to write this up. Huge A- list movie star turns out to have been mercilessly tortured by his activist wife. But no. Nothing of the sort. Where have all the journalists gone? Journalism died when op-eds became mistaken for factual reporting. People are now told what to believe instead of contemplating the positions outlined by the writer and forming their own opinions.

The pillorying of Depp in 2016 at the word of Amber Heard has now offered up a conundrum in the wake of his seeming exoneration. At the very least the wake of her bold faced lies about what really went on. Are these publications simply frightened? Is it so hard for them to admit that they got it all wrong? It would seem to be the case, as the silence is truly deafening here. The other possibilities include conspiracy theories and big money being thrown around to quash this story as much as possible because the agendas of #MeToo and #TimesUp are just too important (read: lucrative) to let this one man ruin it all for them. At the end of the day who knows, truth is frequently stranger than fiction and with much more to be revealed here we might just get one of the strangest, heartbreaking stories in recent memory.

You know why the Harvey Weinstein debacle is getting nonstop media coverage? Because he's going down. Johnny Depp is inconvenient and they don't know how to make it or him go away.
