1 janv. 1727 av. J.-C. - The founding of Hebron
Description:
Hebron is a significant Palestinian city in the southern West Bank, historically recognized as one of the oldest cities in the Levant. It is the second-largest city in the West Bank and the third-largest in the Palestinian territories. The city is especially noted for the Cave of the Patriarchs, a site revered in Jewish, Christian, and Islamic traditions. In 2017, it had a population of approximately 201,063 Palestinians and around 700 Jewish settlers. Hebron's history includes periods under Babylonian, Roman, Byzantine, and Ottoman rule, among others, with a complex and often contentious modern history marked by its division in 1997 into two sectors: H1, controlled by the Palestinian National Authority, and H2, under Israeli military administration. Hebron is also an economic hub, contributing significantly to the area's GDP.
