1 juin 1833 - Factory Act

Description:

Passed by the Whig government of Lord Grey which aimed to improve conditions for children working in factories.Followed a Royal Commission on Factory Reform and stated that:
- employers must have an age certificate for all their child workers
- children 9-13 could work a maximum of 9 hours
- children 13-18 could work a maximum of 12 hours
- children weren't allowed to work at night
- there must be 2 hours schooling each day for children under 13 (employers to make deductions to pay for this)

4 Factory Inspectors appointed to enforce the law and to report to the Home Secretary.
