Description:
Wabash, St. Louis & Pacific Railway Company v. Illinois, decided by the U.S. Supreme Court in 1886, significantly limited the rights of states to control interstate commerce. The ruling declared that individual states could not regulate railroads or other forms of interstate commerce, a power reserved for the federal government, leading directly to the creation of the Interstate Commerce Commission the following year.
