The Bay of Pigs invasion was a failed CIA operation aimed at overthrowing the Cuban government led by Fidel Castro. The plan involved a force of Cuban exiles trained and armed by the United States, landing at the Bay of Pigs on the southern coast of Cuba. The goal was to spark a popular uprising against Castro's regime. However, the invasion was poorly executed and quickly repelled by Cuban forces. This profoundly worsened relations with Cuba, and led to increased tensions with the Sovits leading to the Missile Crisis.
