18 avr. 433 av. J.-C. - Battle of Sybota

Description:

Corinth, finished with its new fleet (150 ships - allies included) they sailed from Leucas to Corcyra.

As soon as the Corcyraeans heard of this massive fleet incoming they mustered 110 ships at 'Sybota'.

Both fleets met at Sybota - at first Corinthian won the first engagement however on the second engagement Corinth withdrew once Athenian reinforcements arrived.

Both Corinth & Corcyra claim victory with trophies being mounted on main land & island Sybota.

During Corinthian withdrawal back home, they openly attacked & took control of Anacatorium which was a city that had both influences of Corcyra & Corinth.
But most importantly the battle of Sybota gave Corinth its first reason to declare war on Athens for openly helping its enemies & fighting against them. (However the treaty between Athens & Peloponnese was still 'respected')
