1 nov 1952 - First test of H bomb

Description:

The first hydrogen bomb was tested in the Pacific in ‘Operation Ivy’. It weighed 80 tons, was 20 feet high, and required a huge refrigeration system. It was the equivalent of 10 million tons of TNT, and 1000 times as powerful as the Hiroshima bomb. Witnesses (kept 20 miles away) were worried because it just kept getting hotter and hotter. The thermonuclear age had begun. One H bomb could destroy Moscow.
