- South Carolina was very Anglican and intolerant, use divide and conquer strategy w/ NA and slaves- NA got bounty $ for return of runaway slaves (est. peace and trade w/ Carolinas)
- Slow grow to resent NA, so the two groups won't team up and attack whites
