1 janv. 1978 - The Longest Walk

Description:

A five month march by Native Americans and supporters (roughly 2,000 people) from San Francisco to Washington DC. They were protesting threats to tribal lands and water rights in the last major event of the Red Power movement. The march was intended to symbolise the forced removal of Native Americans from their homelands and to draw attention to the continuing problems of Indian people and their communities. It was also intended to expose and challenge the backlash movement against Indian treaty rights that were gaining strength around the country and in Congress.
