Description:

-USSR to buy Cuban sugar (one of most important crops, previously sold to USA) in exchange for oil + weapons

-Soviet oil replacing US oil; US corporations owning Cuban oil refineries refused to process it --> taken over by Castro (angered US government + corporations)

-accelerated nationalisation (land reform, healthcare, education) in response to increased intensity of embargo by USA, as it was now convinced that Castro was communist
