1 janv. 1050 av. J.-C. - Battle of Gibeah

Description:

The Battle of Gibeah, recounted in the Book of Judges, stemmed from the Tribe of Benjamin's egregious act of inhospitality, wherein a concubine of a Levite was brutally raped to death by a mob. In seeking justice, the outraged tribes of Israel demanded the perpetrators be handed over, but the Benjamites refused. This led to a war in which the Benjamites were nearly wiped out, including women and children. Ultimately, to ensure the survival of the tribe, the men of another town, Jabesh Gilead, were slain, and their daughters were wed to the remaining men of Benjamin. From these survivors emerged Saul, the first king of Israel. The conflict left the Tribe of Benjamin greatly diminished, earning them the moniker "the smallest of all the tribes."
