1 janv. 925 av. J.-C. - Sack of Jerusalem
Description:
Shishak's campaign against the Kingdom of Judah, recounted in the Hebrew Bible, occurred around 926 BCE during the reign of Rehoboam. Supporting Jeroboam, who ruled the northern tribes as the Kingdom of Israel, Shishak invaded Judah with a formidable force of 60,000 horsemen, 1,200 chariots, and additional troops. He seized treasures from Solomon's Temple and the royal palace, including gold shields made by Solomon, replacing them with brass ones.
According to Josephus, Shishak's army, also including 400,000 infantrymen, faced no resistance, capturing fortified cities and Jerusalem without a fight. While he didn't destroy Jerusalem, Shishak compelled Rehoboam to strip the Temple and treasury of their gold and valuables. Shishak's marriage to Jeroboam's relative, possibly an Egyptian princess named Ano, suggests a political alliance between the two rulers.
