Description:

This was a riot and rooftop protest at Strangeways Prison which lasted for 25 days, making it the longest prison riot in UK history.

During the riot:
- 1 prisoner was killed
- 147 prison officers and 47 prisoners were injured

Repairs to the prison cost £50 million. Afterwards, the Woolf Report into prison riots stated that riots were happening due to intolerable conditions.
