Description:

The Forest Laws:
- prohibited cutting down trees
- prohibited hunting in the forests
- made all woodland into 'the king's forest', legitimising William I
- led to mutilation if broken

This went against Anglo-Saxon traditions, so poaching was seen as a social crime in Anglo-Saxon communities.
