2 juin 1825 - At the age of 7, Douglass's mother, Harriet Bailey, died.

Description:

From the beginning of Frederick Douglass's life, he lived a slave. Therefore, he did not have the chance to know the affection of his mother, Harriet Bailey. This was a common occurrence for slave families, and it had no effect on them. For example, when Douglass' mother passed, he had not felt any sorrow. And this is quite shocking for today's audience because we have grown with the privilege of having our nurturing mothers by our sides until at least the age of 18. However, back in the 1800s, the slave's masters did not want any connections for the families, because that would give the slaves a sense of meaning. The whole purpose of a slave was to work for their masters, and they would feel less willing to if they had more important things to attend to in their lives.
