1 janv. 1839 - Married Women's Property Laws
Description:
Starting in 1839: These allowed women to retain rights over property they brought into marriage, in response to increases of family separation and cases of husbands deserting their families. This significantly established that white women could own property, aka they were not themselves property. Husbands, however, continued to have the right to control their wives’ properties.
