The passage of the Massachusetts Bay School Law. This law was created to force parents and the higher class to teach their children/servants to read and write. This would later provide a foundation for required curriculum in schools. This was important back then because it set the standard of starting the education of children early. Of course it is important today because, as mentioned earlier, it set the stage for the start of the required curriculum.
