Description:
On August 26th, 1221, the Crusaders tried to reach Mansurah under the cover of darkness, but they were careless and the Egyptians were alerted to their presence. The Crusaders, not wanting to give up their stores of wine, drank it all. The Egyptians sank four ships at the rear of the formation, making it difficult for the Crusaders to retreat. al-Kamil had the sluice gates along the bank of the Nile opened, which flooded the area and made the remaining ships begin to flounder.
