1 janv. 1861 - The Anaconda Plan Begins to Debilitate the Confederacy

Description:

In early 1861, after Bull Run (one of the first battles of the civil war), President Abraham Lincoln realized this war wouldn't be ending anytime soon and he needed a plan for this. Along with General Winfield Scott, one of the greatest generals in American history, formulated a new strategy that became known as the Anaconda Plan. The Main idea of this was to surround the Confederacy and squeeze it to death just like an anaconda snake crushes its prey. The Union, supported by Lincoln, held a major offensive attack on Richmond in 1862, however, they failed to capture the city. The Confederate remained safe from their attack for another two years.
