1 janv. 1960 - M.A.D
Description:
By the early 1960s, the US and the USSR were locked in an arms race. They spied on each other to steal technological tactics, the USSR tended to use spies, while the US used U2 planes (planes that could read a newspaper from 14km in the air!). The US even placed short-range nuclear weapons in turkey (part of CENTO) in case of the USSR attacking. By the 1960s both sides had enough nuclear weapons to destroy the other.
However, there was a theory that stated that this made both countries feel more secure, for a reason called Mutually Assured Destruction (M.A.D). MAD, meant the enemy would not dare attack first, because it knew that if it attacked, the other side's bombs would reach them just in time for both sides to be attacked in the end. No side would dare to attack first.
