American physician and psychiatrist known for his contributions to the fields of neurology and psychiatry during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Putnam received his medical degree from Harvard Medical School in 1872.He conducted research on various neurological conditions, particularly epilepsy. Putnam made contributions to the understanding of hysteria and the role of the mind in the expression of physical symptoms. He advocated for acknowledging the interplay of biological, psychological, and social influences on mental health (Jones, 1920).
