American psychiatrist and psychoanalyst. Coriat was a member of the Boston Psychoanalytic Society and one of the early American practitioners of Sigmund Freud's psychoanalytic methods, and he contributed to the dissemination and development of psychoanalysis in the United States. He was best known for his work in psychosomatic medicine, a field that explores the interactions between psychological factors and physical health. He was also interested in the therapeutic use of hypnosis and suggestion and psychophysiological disorders.
