5 mars 1857 - Dred Scott Decision
Description:
Born in pro-slavery states, Dred Scott was an enslaved black man. He was sold to John Emerson who often moved around from state to state, even going to free states with slaves. Scott believed that even though he was an enslaved man, being in a free state would free him from slavery, and on those grounds sued for his freedom. However, he lost the case and got called inferior. This was a very important case as it essentially said that you could bring slaves into free states, destroying the Missoouri compromise.
