27 mai 1959 - First Robotic Arm is Installed on a Factory Floor
Description:
The first industrial robotic arm, dubbed "Unimate," was used to lift and stack hot, die-cut metal parts at a General Motors facility. Designed by George Devol and his collaborator Joseph Engelberger, it included X and Y axis movement, a rotatable gripper resembling a pincer, and the ability to execute a memory-stored program consisting of up to 200 moves. With its versatility and ability to do a wide range of risky or taxing jobs for humans (such as lifting 75-pound loads without getting tired or operating in hazardous environments), the Unimate helped to revolutionize the car industry and usher in a new era of pervasive automation.
