Description:
The Whig PM Lord Melbourne resigned, Peel had option of becoming PM 1839. Peel insisted on replacing the ladies of the bedchamber who cared for Queen Victoria, who were usually wives of Whig politicians. The Queen refused to dismiss ladies of her bedchamber, so he declined to become PM and Melbourne stayed until the 1841 elections.
